"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my redeemer." (Psalm 19:14)

"Whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them,
I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock....
Matthew 7:24-25)

The Rock means Divine truth from the Lord and the Lord Himself.
[In the Lord's parable] the house founded upon a rock
means the church and the person of the church
who has founded his doctrine and life upon Divine truth.
(Apocalypse Explained 411:11)

At the end of the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord told a story about a wise man and a foolish man, the houses they built, and what happened to these houses. This parable has great relevance for us still today, for it shows two pictures of what our life can be like, depending on the choices we make. If we choose to follow the Lord, we are opening the way for the life of His kingdom to enter into us. Heaven is the Lord's kingdom in the spiritual world, and the church is the Lord's kingdom on earth.

The Lord seeks to build His church inside each one of us. We can help by choosing a right foundation. The parable tells us clearly how to do this: listen to the truths of the Word and do them. Simply hearing is not enough--it gives us only a foundation of shifting sand. But truths that are put to use in our lives forge a strong foundation--a rock on which the Lord can build a true church, a form of heaven on earth.

As the parable describes, storms are part of everyone's life. But if we have a good foundation, the Lord will help us to weather the storms and emerge stronger than ever. We hope that these materials will inspire and inform you in building your own foundations.
