| 1 Samuel 17:58; 18:1, 3-4, 14 |
[After David had killed Goliath,] Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, young man? And David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.” And it was so, when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul…. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt…. And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him.

“Whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
| John 15:12-14 |
“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”
| Luke 15:8-10 |
“What woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’ Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

All love desires the good of another. The love of parents desires the good of their children; the love of the bridegroom and of the husband desires the good of the bride and of the wife; and friendship’s love desires the good of friends.
