- Unto Us a Child Is Born
- Introduction
Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given (Isaiah 9:6).
The one God who is invisible came into the world and assumed a Human, not only that He might redeem people, but also that He might become visible, that thereby conjunction with people might become possible... (True Christian Religion 486:2).
The first few chapters of the gospels of Matthew and Luke tell us how the Lord was born into this world and how various people reacted to this Divine Child. An innkeeper turned Mary and Joseph away because the inn was too full. Are we sometimes too busy to make room for the Lord? Are our minds too full of worldly concerns to receive and treasure His truths? Herod reacted to news of the Lord's birth by ordering that all young male children in the area be killed. Although we might never resort to actual murder, do we allow selfishness to control us - in effect seeking to eliminate the Lord's presence in our lives?
Then there were Simeon and Anna. Both of these people had been waiting and hoping for the Lord's birth for a long time. Anna gave thanks to God when she saw Him. SImeon reached out to take the Lord in his arms and blessed God saying, "My eyes have seen Your salvation!" Today, the Lord continually seeks to enter our lives and be born anew into each individual's heart and mind. How will we react to the news of the Lord's birth this Christmas?
We hope that the readings, projects, and other resources will enhance your celebration of the Lord's birth into the world and the potential for His birth into our lives.
